It is the third time we will go on a photo adventure in Morocco. Our first trip in 2018 was an overwhelming experience and our customers were more than happy. Especially the days in the desert were very fascinating and the results were spectacular.
Last year we were able to perform even better and had a very successful trip with a bigger group.
Based o our experience we have made some changes for the 2020 trip. We will have more time in the desert and reduce the driving. Also we addded a visit to the El Jadida Horse fair where we can see hundreds of horses i the traditional tbourias (Fantasias). Please be aware that you have to fly into Casablanca but that departure will be from Marrakech. So it might be mandatory for some – depending on your itinerary – to get a domestic flight from Marrakech to Casablanca.

WHY YOU SHOULD

What customers have said:

Day 1: Arrival at Casablanca

Arrival at Casablanca airport and shuttle to the hotel. Depending on arrivals we will have time to have a look at the famous Hassan II -mosque, which is the biggest mosque in Africa and one of the biggest worldwide. It is situated right at the ocean. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Hassan II Mosque

After breakfast we will go back to Hassan II Mosque and have a guided tour inside. There is no other way to visit the mosque. Afterwards we will drive along the coast south to El Jadida. It is a 2 hours drive. In El Jadida we check in to the hotel and then visit the horse fair where we will have many opportunities to photograph horses, riders and people.

Day 3: The El Jadida Horse Show

Today is our tbouria-day. More than 700 riders from 40 countries will participate in the various competitions at the El Jadida Horse Show. The performance consists of a group of horse riders, all wearing traditional clothes, who charge along a straight path at the same speed so as to form a line, and then at the end of the charge (about two hundred meters) fire into the sky using old muskets or muzzle-loading rifles. The difficulty of the performance is in synchronizing the movement of the horses during acceleration of the charge, and especially in firing the guns simultaneously so that one single shot is heard. The horses were bred from the Arabian and Barb breeds or a mixture of the two.The fantasia is considered a cultural performance and a kind of martial art; it also symbolizes a strong relationship between the man (or woman) and the horse, as well as an attachment to tradition.

Day 4: 1st shooting in the sand dunes

Transfer to Casablanca airport and flight to Errachidia where we will be picked up and drive to the Merzouga desert camp. Depending on arrival time at the camp we will have a first shooting in the sand dunes. However, there will be a campfire and music after dinner.

Day 05 Desert camp. We will have our first shoot at sunset. The morning light sometimes combines with early mist and it creates a mysterious lightning in the dunes. Camels and horses are at our disposal and we will decide how to start depending on the light. After breakfast, befor eit gets to hot, we are going to visit Merzouga and other nearby villages to do
street photography. Being back in the camp a late afternoon shoot is waiting for us.

A camel disappears behind a dune from the yellow desert sand.

Day 5: The fascination of the desert

Desert camp. The desert has its very own fascination. The light and the colours are unique. The sand dunes, where we will shoot, are in walking distance, but we still have to use the 4WD sometimes, because walking there can be very exhausting. We will enjoy the black sky at night when we sit beside the fire and listen to the musicians. As on the day before, we are not going to stay in the camp during daytime. It simply gets too hot.

Day 6: A widespread oasis

We will have a last morning shoot before we depart for Tingehir after breakfast. The drive is about 3-4 hours, depending on the road conditons. The landscape is usually half desert, flat with a mountain range in a distance. Crossing the mountains will give us again different opportunities for landscpae photography. On the way we will meet locals with their donkeys and stop to take photos. We always have to ask permission that might not be given. Tingehir is a lively district capital in the middle of a widespread oasis.

Day 7: Shoots in the soft afternoon light

We should have an early breakfast to get to the Todra valley, appr. 12km north of Tingehir, before tourist busses start coming in. The Todra is a canyon with straight rising rocks walls, 300 meter high. It is an amazing beautiful place but has many visitors. From here we have to go towards Quarzazate. On the way there are one stop to visit a Kashbah and see it from inside. Arriving at Quarzazate we will immediately go to nearby Fint oasis to do some shoots in the soft afternoon light. Driving time will be about 3-4 hours. Depending on the lenght of our stops.

Day 8: Exploring Marrakech

Marrakech. The earlier we leave, the sooner we get to Marrakech. We have to cross the High Atlas Mountains and there is no way of doing this any faster then 4-5 hours. After arriving in Marrakech we have the opportunity to explore the souk and Djemaa el Fna, the central place of Marrakech, where musicians, dancers, snake charmers and all kind of merchants offer their services. It’s an unforgettable experience.

Day 9: Departure

Goodbye but hopefully with many wonderful experiences and fabulous pictures. According to your flights, there will be a shuttle to the airport.
